The 2011 Annual Hollidaysburg Postal Workers Food Drive was a success! Once again this community has proved that they are looking out for their neighbors in need! What a wonderful display of caring we witnessed on May 14th! Folks filled bags of groceries and laid them out by their mailbox and the Postal Workers and many volunteers went around collecting all those groceries and delivering them all day to the 811 Scotch Valley Road location where our food pantry is. Then our many volunteers unloaded, weighed, sorted, stacked, stocked and had the food ready to go for the next working day! Total weight was 9,180 pounds of donated groceries plus a $100 donation! That is a lot of food! Coach John Barton brought the Hollidaysburg Area High School Football Team with him for a few hours and made short work of it. We also had many individual volunteers that sorted, cooked, took pictures, and completed paperwork so we could run smoothly. We had 39 volunteers who worked over 131 hours that day, not including the Postal Workers and their volunteers that collected the food. Each person had their role in making this an easier venture. Just come one time when we are collecting this food and you will realize what an undertaking feeding the community can be!
Since we have been in Hollidaysburg, we have seen such a beautiful spirit of giving and caring in this area and watched God work in ways we could not fathom. We have watched our facilities expand right before the needs really started to grow and seen folks come from seemingly nowhere when our pantry was low and bring in enough food to keep giving out to others in need. God knows our need before we ask and we have witnessed that. This has been one of those times, where you are just amazed by the moving of God in the lives of those around us as He works to fill the storehouses for His children.
A sincere thanks to all who had part, from the donor to the person who collected to the people who weighed, sorted and stacked it.
