The Leamersville Grace Brethren Church brought their "Mission Possible" team over to the American Rescue Workers Chapel for a night of puppets and drama. It included great puppets, music, poems, and pantomime. It was a fun and uplifting night. What a blessing to see the youth of today ministering at such an early age. They also brought a huge hot meal to serve afterwards. It was such a great time and enjoyed by all, our chapel was full that night! Click here to read and see more.
For the last couple of years, the Hollidaysburg Corps has been giving a 'thank you' tea to the local church advisory board for their hard work and dedication throughout the year as they support us. This year, we gave it a Chinese theme and everyone had a great time! We only gave them chopsticks to eat with and served an American/Chinese tea menu. We did give them a spoon for the Won Ton Soup after we had them try to use chopsticks. Click here to read and see more.
A Heart For Others! Meet Asia! She just turned 9 years old. For her birthday, she asked her friends to bring a bag of groceries for the needy instead of gifts. They even passed out grocery bags to their neighbors asking them to give. During their party, they walked around with their wagon and collected 27 bags of groceries! She then donated the groceries to our food pantry to help others who are in need. Such a selfless act needed recognized. Thanks Asia for helping feed the hungry in our area! "… and a little child shall lead them."
Come and join us!!! Starting in March our American Rescue Workers box truck will be in the Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren parking lot the first SATURDAY of EACH MONTH, weather permitting. We will be collecting Non perishable food items for our pantry and Clothing. Hours will be from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. You will be able to drop off your donations and get a tax receipt at the same time!
The Churches will be manning the truck schedule with teams of two people working in two-hour shifts. If your church has not already signed up for this ministry and would like to become a part of it, please call Keith Eldred, who is coordinating this effort, at 695-7631. This is a fun way to help your community and the mission at the same time.
We RECYCLE used plastic grocery bags, and use them to pack our food pantry orders. Please drop them off at our 811 Scotch Valley Rd. Address, or give us a call for more information.
Don't know what to do with your old cell phone? Donate it!!! We collect them and recycle them for a small profit! The money goes to our many projects and programs here at the mission.
VOLUNTEERS ARE ALWAYS NEEDED. Volunteers are how the American Rescue Workers in Hollidaysburg can accomplish so much. Volunteers are a very vital part of this work. The giving of yourself is the best gift to give and has never been so much fun! Not ready for a project? Do you have at least 3 hours a week? We have routine volunteer work to get our daily food orders out in a timely manner! If you would like to volunteer, please call or email us and we would be glad to send you a volunteer application or better yet, stop by and fill one out, we would love to give you more information on it.
We are Bananas for Banana Boxes, if you have any that you are not using, please donate them to our food pantry!

This year the American Rescue Workers started a new outreach program for teen girls called "Project Esther". The purpose of Project Esther is to show God's love by giving gently used and brand new prom dresses to local teen girls. As adults, prom dresses seem trivial but to a teen girl on prom night, the dress is everything.
For a teen, caring about what they care about is important. This year 4 girls received prom dresses. We look to have more girls receive dresses next year as the word gets out! Another part of Project Esther was Spa Night. This was on April 16th and 6 girls participated. At the beginning of Spa Night, the girls got to munch on some sweet snacks and listen to a devotional entitled, "When life gets messy, God gives you peace." The girls got manicures, pedicures, make-up from Mary Kay and jewelry from Lia Sophia. At the end of the night each girl received a gift basket with lots of girly goodies and a gift card to get their hair done for the prom. Our hope is that Project Esther keeps growing in the following years. We want to thank all our volunteers who helped make Spa Night a success: Cathy and Heather Harker helped with pedicures. Ellen Morgret of Investment Savings Bank did the manicures. Debbie and Sarah Sault helped the girls choose Lia Sophia Jewelry to match their dresses. Judy Snyder gave the girls Mary Kay make-up and tips on applying it. We also want to thank Chrissy Martin and Genee Knab for helping with food and making the event run smooth. Also, thank you to everyone who gave donations that made Project Esther successful! We appreciate your help and willingness to make a difference in the lives of teenage girls.
