Stockings! Cheer! A magical time of year!
Smith Transport of Roaring Spring is well known for delivering goods; but this time the company was looking to get into the spirit of the season by delivering stockings- specifically, Christmas stockings. And these stocking are special for they are filled with fun items for local children.
And what better way to accomplish this festivity than to team up with the American Rescue Workers Inc, a national organization whose primary purpose is to assist those in personal crises throughout local communities. The "stairway of stockings" and items depicted in the photo were donated and collected by Smith Transport employees. All told the employees donated enough items to fill 120 Christmas stockings, additionally various food items and toiletries were also collected and distributed. The smiles on the faces of the employees in the photo prove there is a satisfaction and a magical spirit in helping others, not only during the holiday season, but also throughout the entire the year.
Smith Transport would like to thank their employees for their participation in this program and their "Dedicated to Excellence" spirit.
The Hollidaysburg Rotary Club presented the American Rescue Workers with a check for $1,500.00 for the Christmas season.
Proceeds came from the Hollidaysburg Rotary 1st annual Rotary's Helping Hand for the Holidays. Local Rotarians collected food and money on the diamond in Hollidaysburg to benefit the American Rescue Workers. The Hollidaysburg Rotary Club is planning on holding this event again in December of 2010 and appreciates all the support from local residents.
Three organizations have come together and made donating a sport! Keller Engineers, P. Jospeh Lehman and Stiffler, McGraw and Associates had a little competition on which office could bring in the most weight in groceries to the American Rescue Workers! What a great time we had as they were unloading and weighing! Their offices collected and brought out to our food pantry a total of 2,622 pounds of groceries and what a blessing! The group had fun with the friendly competition and plan to make it an annual event.
This is just another way that local companies are helping to reach out to this community in need. We want to thank all the employees who helped make this happen and good luck to you next year!
Local Martin's Food Grocery Store participated in a drive for "Bag the Hunger" campaign which resulted in a check for $3,600.00 that was converted into Martin's Food Gift Certificates. This money was given by customers who wanted to help their neighbors who might not be making ends meet. To all those who gave and who participated in the drive, THANK YOU! Your generous gift of kindness is still reaching to those who are struggling today!
This fall, the Boy Scout Troop #32 & Cub Scout Pack #332 from the First United Methodist Church of Hollidaysburg did a food drive during the holiday season and brought in 300 bags of groceries weighing 2, 215 pounds! These kids were energetic and enthusiastic about helping others. They canvassed the local area with Belle Bags and let people know when they would be back for donations and then they helped unload these groceries at the mission. What a blessing these kids and adult leaders were! Proverbs 22:6 says, "Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it." (NIV version) These kids have learned the joy of giving of themselves and are learning to help others along the way. In a world that so often is filled with 'me, me, me', we are thrilled to see kids seeking to help others.
